LENTONNESS

So how did the commission to create a public mural turn into the design of a LED sign on the side of a cinema about writing poetry on napkins, changing housing policies and jacket potatoes?

The term 'Lentonness' was coined as a strategy to engage residents of Lenton, Nottingham to actively reflect on the overfamiliar and everyday experiences of their neighbourhood.

Memories, myths and critique form the growing number of responses to the question 'What is Lentonness?' A series of workshops, social media and radio call-outs have engaged a cross-section of Lenton residents in defining 'Lentonness'. The responses gathered so far, give an unfiltered and collective view of what Lenton means to its occupiers – from long-term residents, elders and children, to new communities and students – at a time when the neighbourhood has undergone significant physical and social changes.

Lentonness takes the form of an LED sign, displayed on the side of the Savoy Cinema on Derby Road, Lenton, Nottingham UK.
